About The Position

This position is open on a continuous basis. The first review of applications will begin the week of September 21, 2026, with subsequent reviews conducted weekly. Positions assigned to this class are responsible for providing technical information to customers including interpretation of Town codes, ordinances, policies relating to setbacks, zoning, etc. and conducting plan review verification on permit submittmits for accuracy and completion. This is a fully qualified, experienced level administrative classification in the management support and analysis job family. Incumbent(s) performs the full range of support duties under general supervision. Classification requires solid knowledge of transactional and/or work standards for completing tasks and assignments of a varied nature. Work may vary from basic to more complex duties and issues but are generally within expected parameters.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university and 2 years of experience in building, engineering, architecture, planning, or a related field

  • Types of permits
  • Organizing and reviewing construction documents
  • Basic mathematical principles
  • Applicable Federal, state and local laws, codes, ordinances, rules and regulations

Responsibilities

  • Processes building permits, right-of-way use permits, planning/zoning permits, and other permits/licenses ensuring completeness and accuracy against records; determines applicable fees based on permit type; issues permits.
  • Assists customers at the front counter, on the phone and via email with various questions related to submittal procedures, permit requirements, fees, plan review timelines and other building safety, planning, and/or engineering related concerns or responsibilities.
  • Receives and processes routine new home permits, right-of-way use permits, development plan reviews, and planning/zoning cases.
  • Discards paper and electronic files in accordance with applicable laws and maintains detailed logs to insure proper documentation.
  • Creates documentation and communicates with applicants regarding refunds when applicable.
  • Utilizes electronic permitting & licensing software to manage the progress and status of permits, plan reviews, and planning/zoning cases including invoicing fees, assigning reviews, and managing timelines.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Benefits

  • The Town contributes 6.2% of eligible compensation to the plan, while employees are required to contribute 1.3% of eligible compensation.
