About The Position

This position serves as a Permanent Substitute within Madison City Schools. The role involves coordinating substitute activities, performing substitute teaching duties, and ensuring a proper learning environment is maintained. Employees are expected to model professional conduct, maintain clear boundaries with students, and promptly report any suspected child abuse or neglect. This position is subject to the Students First Act of 2011 and requires a background check.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate or a valid Alabama Substitute Teacher's License
  • Background checks must not be more than 10 years old.
  • A new background check is required for anyone new to Madison City Schools, regardless of the recency of the ABI and FBI background checks.
  • Employees are expected to model professional conduct, maintain clear and appropriate boundaries with students, use district-approved channels for communications, and avoid interactions that could be perceived as favoritism, grooming, or undue familiarity.
  • Staff must promptly report suspected child abuse or neglect to law enforcement authorities as required by Alabama law.

Responsibilities

  • Point of contact for teachers who will be absent
  • Coordinate substitute activities at the school
  • Perform as a substitute teacher when necessary
  • Perform other instructional tasks when not required to substitute
  • Implement lesson plans of absent teachers
  • Call other substitute teachers to work
  • Provide assignments relayed by teacher to substitute teachers
  • Inform principal of all absences of teachers
  • Maintain proper learning environment in classroom
  • Ensure instructional activities are carried out by all substitute personnel
  • Exhibit positive human relations skills

  • Up to 10 years experience will be counted for new employees who provide documentation of full-time experience in the area of concentration.
