About The Position

KIPP Memphis Public Schools is seeking a Permanent Substitute Teacher (Unlicensed) for the High School. This full-time, non-exempt position reports to the Principal and is responsible for supporting KIPP Memphis teachers and students through various organizational and classroom management tasks. The Substitute Teacher will perform additional duties as necessary to ensure student learning. The role requires effective communication, preparation of materials, providing individual student assistance, adhering to school policies, ensuring student safety, assisting with grading, maintaining student progress records, and supporting students needing extra guidance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree OR 48 college hours with 2 years of teaching experience
  • Active Tennessee state licensure and certification
  • Ability to commit to a long-term assignment
  • Basic understanding of childhood development and steps to support children of various ages
  • Ability to effectively communicate with teachers and parents regarding student's progress and behavior
  • Strong organizational skills are essential to aid in preparing materials for several daily lesson plans
  • Personal accountability and patience are essential when working with children daily in a classroom environment
  • Ability to prioritize activities quickly and support the teacher in instances that are exceptionally busy
  • Basic writing, math and science skills are necessary to assist in teaching students and answering their questions
  • Ability to manage potentially challenging behavior from students and maintain a professional and patient demeanor
  • Experience fostering positive relationships with children and adults in a learning environment

Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with the instructor in order to assist in daily lesson plans
  • Aid in preparing materials to be used for projects, including art and science
  • Provide individual assistance to children in small groups to ensure an understanding of concepts
  • Strictly adhere to the school's rules and policies
  • Ensure the safety of the students within the classroom, on field trips, and throughout the campus
  • Assist teachers in reviewing, grading and recording homework and tests
  • Maintain, observe and assess each student's progress through assessments, and be aware of students who need more one-on-one guidance
