About The Position

South Fayette Township School District is seeking a Permanent Substitute Intermediate School STEAM Classroom Teacher. This role is responsible for administering and enhancing an intermediate grades Science/STEAM program and fostering a positive learning environment. The goal is to promote student learning and personal growth, develop essential skills, and establish effective relationships with students, parents, and staff.

Requirements

  • Valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate in Elementary Education.
  • Strong background in technology and/or the arts.
  • 3.0 or higher QPA.
  • Proof of ongoing professional or educational experience.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy.

Nice To Haves

  • Makerspace experience and/or associated certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes a positive learning environment for students in the Science/STEAM classroom.
  • Collaborates with other Science/STEAM teachers.
  • Facilitates instruction within the Science/STEAM classrooms at the Intermediate School.
  • Manages the materials and resources located in the Science/STEAM classrooms.
  • Teaches the assigned academic subject(s) to pupils in a classroom, using the approved course of study adopted by the South Fayette Township School District.
  • Promotes the integration of the PA STEELS standards and STEAM concepts through experiential learning opportunities.
  • Partners with the Director of Technology and Innovation and/or other teachers to implement and manage grants awarded to the school district.
  • Welcomes regional partners, foundation representatives, and other visitors to the classroom to enhance our own Science/STEAM program and share expertise with other educators.
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials which provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Fosters an inquiry-based approach to learning through project-based, real-world tasks.
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Collaborates with peers to write curricular units using Habits of Mind and the Understanding by Design framework and participates in associated training and professional development.
  • Utilizes multiple instructional technologies to engage students and enhance instructional practices for students.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional, safe learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Assesses pupils’ academic and social growth and keeps appropriate records.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school program.
  • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Maintains professional competence through staff development provided by the district and incorporates the techniques into everyday instruction.
  • Maintains professional competences through self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
  • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district and state testing procedures.
  • Utilizes data to make instructional decisions.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
