About The Position

The Perioperative Technician II prepares surgical equipment, supports perioperative care, and ensures readiness of instruments and supplies. The Perioperative Technician II Decontaminates, assembles, sterilizers, and distributes instruments, supplies, and equipment for patient care. Cleans, cultures, tests, and operates various sterilizes. Prepares case carts for Operating Room. Participates in the delivery of individualized perioperative nursing care under the supervision and guidance of a licensed physician or a registered professional nurse. Organizes and prepares equipment and supplies for patient care. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to assure quality patient care. Maintains assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and organized condition to maintain required standards for handling sterilized and clean materials and to maintain a safe work environment. Sterilize instruments, equipment, linen, and supplies using various types of sterilizers and aerators. Load sterilizers in the prescribed manner and set controls to specified time and temperature according to material and requirements of items being sterilized. Verify appropriate sterilization cycle to ensure all parameters have been met. Complete appropriate documentation records. Identifies and assemble instrument procedure trays according to the prescribed manner. Wrap package and handle all items following procedure. Mark items with identifying data and distributes or store in designated area. Notify appropriate CTL or Manager when unable to replace parts or with equipment deficiencies in the work area. Dispense products requested for sterile and non-sterile equipment and supplies. Assign priority to emergency requests and issue required supplies and equipment based on knowledge of procedure intended. Assemble and wrap materials, instruments and supplies according to established aseptic technique. Disassemble and clean instruments and equipment using approved chemical solution. Reassemble instruments and equipment after cleaning and operate to test for proper functioning. Replace lost or damaged parts. Complete required forms and transfer inoperable equipment to the appropriate area for repair. Apply aseptic techniques in daily work assignments. Cleans and/or safely operates selected equipment within the department. Maintains accurate documentation related to activities, including responsibility for creation of lot numbers for all sterilized items for tracking and recall purposes. Effectively functions in crisis situations with appropriate actions based on sound judgement and submit appropriate communications. Prepares case carts for surgical procedures. Assists in orientation of new employees to each work assignment areas and total department operations as needed and/or assigned. Performs patient care activities to include: Reviews schedules and prepares equipment and room for each assigned case. Organizes supplies and equipment for patient care. Transports, assembles, checks for proper functioning and calibrates equipment. D. Provides assistance to Physicians, RN's and Physician Assistants in the delivery of care to patients. E. Transports patients and assists with moving and positioning of patients. F. Performs general cleaning and decontamination of supply carts, supplies, equipment and machines according to policy and procedure. G. Makes adjustments and performs general maintenance and repairs on equipment or refers to Biomedical engineering. H. Uses technical skills to assist physicians. I. Applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served. Plans and participates in special projects as assigned. Assists in problem solving when needed in all related areas. Able to perform all Perioperative Technician responsibilities in addition to: Orders department supplies from warehouse and outside vendors in the absence of the Lead Perioperative Technician or as delegated. Decontaminates and distributes instruments, supplies, and equipment for patient care. Prepares case carts for Operating Room. Participates in the delivery of individualized perioperative nursing care under the supervision and guidance of a licensed physician or a registered professional nurse. Organizes and prepares equipment and supplies for patient care. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to assure quality patient care. Verifies appropriate sterilization cycle to ensure all parameters have been met. Check indicators, sterile wraps for integrity, and if Immediate-Use Steam Sterilization (IUSS), verify sterilization parameters are met. Identifies instrument procedure trays according to the prescribed manner (Censitrac & Doctor Preference Cards). Open package and handle all items following procedure. Mark items with identifying data and distributes or store in designated area. Notify appropriate CTL or Manager when unable to replace parts or with equipment deficiencies in the work area. Dispense products requested for sterile and non-sterile equipment and supplies. Assign priority to emergency requests and issue required supplies and equipment based on knowledge of procedure intended. Open and un-wrap materials, instruments and supplies according to established aseptic technique. Assists with Point of Use (POU) care of instruments. Tags damaged instruments for repair. Assists with turnover of Operating rooms including, turnover of instrument pans, opening of supplies, assisting the surgical team with appropriately delegated tasks to efficiently and effectively take care of patients. Apply aseptic techniques in daily work assignments and maintains sterile field. Performs patient care activities to include: Reviews schedules and prepares equipment and room for each assigned case. Understands Doctor Preference Cards (DPC's) only opening essential supplies and equipment for the case vs. PRN (as needed) supplies and equipment. Organizes supplies and equipment for patient care. Transports and checks for proper functioning of equipment. G. Refers to Biomedical engineering and notifying charge nurse for repairs or maintenance of equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, EMT, Patient Care Technician, CSS, or related medical experience required.
  • AHA BLS-HCP required.
  • Basic interpersonal skills required.
