The Perioperative Technologist assists staff in patient care in the surgical setting by performing routine and delegated tasks. This role contributes to the delivery of safe, efficient, and quality patient care as delegated by the Registered Nurse (RN). The technologist prepares perioperative patient bays, assists with room turnover, cleaning, patient positioning, obtaining supplies/equipment, and patient transportation. They also assist in operating room turnovers, including restocking anesthesia supplies, obtaining vital signs, and performing Point of Care (POC) testing with quality control. Documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR), maintaining inventory, organizing linen, and assisting with routine unit operations are also key functions. The role requires adherence to universal precautions, completion of incident reports, and cross-training to other department specialties. Maintaining unit training requirements, attending staff meetings, and applying principles of infection control and safety are essential. The position also requires adherence to all InterMed and ASC policies and procedures, maintaining strict confidentiality in alignment with HIPAA guidelines, and performing other duties to support the mission, vision, and values of InterMed.
