About The Position

The Perioperative Support Services Technician assists with the communication between physicians, offices, and hospital personnel that is essential for the coordination of the daily activities. Following the rules established by the medical staff, schedules cases with appropriate time allocation. Applies good interpersonal and communication process utilizing verbal and non-verbal skills to achieve organizational service goals of customer satisfaction and a positive work environment. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 1-year Operating Room scheduling experience or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 years clerical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Typing skills with strong knowledge of medical terminology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Accountable to the Director of Surgical Services.
  • Conducts department training for the Electronic Medical Record Scheduling System and troubleshoots problems with this system.
  • Displays professional commitment and supports the unit team by promoting unity and teamwork among coworkers by maintaining a positive attitude and positive working relationships.
  • Performs post-op data entry.
  • Prioritizes appropriately and communicates information in a timely manner.
  • Promotes positive public relations when communicating with surgeons’ offices.
  • Responsible for understanding and participating in the organization-wide Performance Improvement Program through orientation, education, departmental and interdepartmental quality control, performance improvement, and quality planning activities.
  • Schedules cases seeking necessary information and effectively schedules cases by Acts as a receptionist for the unit and assumes routine clerical, scheduling, and desk activities as appropriate and can work effectively in an environment that demands emotional stability, mature judgment, and flexibility.
  • Assists with Billing duties as a relief as necessary.
  • Assumes responsibility for computing and recording Operating Room charges on each patient.
  • Maintains current prices on items pertaining to patient charges.
  • Displays professional commitment and supports the unit team by promoting unity and teamwork among coworkers by maintaining a positive attitude and positive working relationships.
  • Maintains and updates Implant log to ensure data integrity.
  • Monitors and audits The Specialty Surgeries cases for charging and time accuracy.
  • Responsible for understanding and participating in the organization-wide Performance Improvement Program through orientation, education, departmental and interdepartmental quality control, performance improvement, and quality planning activities.
  • Works closely with Finance and Purchasing to ensure accurate charging practices.
  • Works closely with Inventory Clerk in maintaining inventory on various Operating Room stock.
  • Works closely with the Lead nurse and Nurse Navigator to ensure compliance.
  • Assists with the Lead Nurse, Unit Nurse Supervisor and Director for assisting with daily staffing needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
