About The Position

The Perioperative Nursing Assistant performs diversified activities that facilitate effective and efficient operations, utilizing independent judgement and decision-making. This role is knowledgeable and skilled in the application of aseptic technique in multiple areas and can appropriately move within and around the sterile field. The assistant supports surgeons, physicians, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and registered nurses by performing a variety of perioperative support functions for pre-op, intra-op, and post-op phases. The position requires versatility and knowledge in multiple surgical specialties and phases of surgery, as well as multiple sterilization/disinfection techniques and support areas such as instrumentation, equipment, anesthesia, and supplies. The assistant must be able to function independently in a variety of areas, ensure timely and accurate documentation, and be available for on-call hours outside of scheduled work-hours, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays, responding within the defined timeframe. The role involves prioritizing, anticipating, and providing for surgical procedures and patients, reviewing the daily surgery schedule, collaborating with leadership, and planning support functions to meet multiple needs simultaneously. Actions support efficient preparation for the surgical team and include preparing for age-specific case requirements, identifying barriers, and initiating appropriate interventions. The assistant demonstrates working knowledge of surgical conscience, electronic systems, equipment, and the interrelationship of pre-op, intra-op, and post-op phases, including various medical devices and systems. They apply principles of aseptic techniques, ensure compliance during laser use, and operate various laser systems. The assistant provides technical assistance to the surgical team and support staff, demonstrates effective critical thinking and problem-solving, and independently sets up and operates equipment. They provide case-specific needs, assist with multiple specialty needs, collaborate, communicate, and foster relationships with family members, demonstrating sensitivity to patient and family needs. The role integrates individual efforts within surgical services to ensure a safe environment, promote teamwork, and satisfaction, assisting in achieving department and organizational goals. The assistant attends and participates in department meetings and educational offerings, communicates effectively with nursing staff, and utilizes time wisely.

Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)

Be available to be assigned on-call hours outside of scheduled work-hours, which include after-hours, weekends and holidays. And if contacted while on-call, respond in the time frame as defined by the needs of the department.
