The Perioperative Nursing Assistant performs diversified activities that facilitate effective and efficient operations, utilizing independent judgement and decision-making. This role involves supporting multiple areas within Surgical Services, requiring knowledge and skill in aseptic technique, assisting surgeons and other medical professionals, and performing various perioperative support functions for pre-op, intra-op, and post-op phases. The assistant must be versatile across multiple surgical specialties and phases of surgery, knowledgeable in sterilization/disinfection techniques, and proficient in various support areas such as instrumentation, equipment, anesthesia, and supplies. The position requires the ability to function independently, maintain timely and accurate documentation, and be available for on-call duties, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays. The role also involves prioritizing and anticipating needs for surgical procedures and patients, collaborating with leadership to plan support functions, and preparing for age-specific case requirements. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication are essential, as is fostering positive relationships with patients and families. The assistant will integrate individual efforts to ensure a safe environment, promote teamwork, and contribute to departmental and organizational goals.
