About The Position

The Perioperative Manager is responsible for the day-to-day clinical and operational management of the perioperative services department. This position provides leadership and oversight for the pre-operative, post-anesthesia care, and related procedural services. The management scope includes planning, organizing, staffing, delegating, coordinating, staff utilization, resource allocation, budget management, cost control, quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance. The Perioperative Manager collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, administration, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, high-quality patient care. The manager promotes operational excellence, staff development, patient satisfaction, and compliance with organizational policies and applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license in Indiana
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/BCLS) certification
  • At least 2 years of supervisory management experience
  • Knowledge of perioperative standards, infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience working with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to respond effectively to urgent clinical and operational situations
  • Ability to participate in extended-hour coverage when required by the department.
  • Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing practices, patient safety, infection prevention, and regulatory standards.
  • Effective leadership, communication, coaching, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to manage staffing, scheduling, resources, and daily perioperative operations.
  • Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to monitor performance, identify improvement opportunities, and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with patients, staff, physicians, leadership, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to interpret clinical guidelines, policies, regulations, and performance data.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the daily operations of perioperative services, including pre-operative, and PACU areas.
  • Provides leadership, direction, coaching, and performance management to perioperative staff.
  • Develops and manages staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage and efficient patient flow.
  • Coordinates surgical cases, room assignments, staffing, and resources to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies, clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and infection prevention practices.
  • Promotes patient safety, quality outcomes, and a positive patient experience.
  • Monitors department productivity, utilization, staffing, supplies, and operating costs.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory of medications, supplies, and equipment and works to minimize waste.
  • Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia providers, physicians, and other departments to resolve operational and patient-care issues.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and implements strategies to improve efficiency, quality, and patient flow.
  • Ensures staff competency, orientation, education, and ongoing professional development.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities, audits, regulatory surveys, and corrective action plans as needed.
  • Addresses patient, staff, and physician concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintains accurate clinical and operational documentation and monitors department performance metrics.
  • Promotes teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and a culture of safety within the perioperative department.
