About The Position

Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital represents Orlando Health’s continued commitment to the Seminole County community, which we have proudly served for 40 years. As a comprehensive acute care facility, the hospital offers a full scope of medical and surgical services, including cardiovascular, general surgery, orthopedics, and women’s services with labor and delivery, alongside a future NICU. Opening with 124 beds, the 455,000 square foot hospital will be able to expand to up to 240 beds. State-of-the-art facilities include operating rooms, catheterization labs, interventional radiology, a vascular lab, an ICU and a full-service emergency department. For labor and delivery, the hospital features six private suites thoughtfully designed to make you feel at home while providing exceptional medical care. Each suite includes a hydrotherapy tub for laboring, shower, recliner, adjustable bed with a squat bar, wireless and waterproof heart rate monitors for mom and baby, a smart board that integrates patient and nurse information from Epic, WiFi, and televisions. These modern amenities ensure a comfortable and supportive environment for every patient. Features include: Center for Women and Babies, Six state-of-the-art operating rooms, Three catheterization labs with a dedicated interventional radiology and vascular lab, Comprehensive cardiovascular care, 16 ICU beds, Observation unit, Imaging, Lab, Orlando Health Scripts pharmacy, Dining and café, Chapel.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Health Sciences Administration.
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with Graduate degree in Business or health-related field within 5 years,
  • Four (4) years as a registered nurse in a surgical area, including two (2) years in a leadership role.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • May require one or more of the following certifications based on the appropriate certification for the patient population: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC)
  • National leadership board certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) within 2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of 24/7 perioperative services.
  • Evaluates the environment and makes recommendations to ensure delivery of quality service, optimal patient flow and comfort, safety, and compliance with various standards of care, regulatory/governing bodies (e.g. OSHA, JCAHO), infection control, and risk management.
  • Collaborates with physicians on process improvements that affect established OR metrics, staff retention, and new technologies/procedures.
  • Proactively identifies current and future service-line needs in collaboration with physicians and administration.
  • Actively participates in established perioperative committees (e.g. Corporate Surgery Collaborative, Corporate Surgery, Department of Surgery medical staff meetings, Operations Sub Committee of PGC).
  • Plans and coordinates quality and service activities in the unit/department and is responsible for the overall culture of safety within the unit/department.
  • Promotes a satisfied, healthy work environment for the workforce by establishing a climate of growth, challenge, and development of all team members.
  • Analyzes, develops, and maintains an effective and efficient perioperative nursing delivery model that reflects patient and family needs, ultimately achieving desired outcomes to include established OR metrics.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of new technologies, procedures, and services to support day-to-day operations.
  • Identifies, recruits, develops, and retains top talent.
  • Responsible for management of team members including recruitment, retention, supervision, evaluation, and productivity.
  • Develops and manages unit/department budget and responds in a cost-effective manner to changing patient and team member requirements.
  • Applies key financial principles and organizational financial targets to departmental projects/budgets.
  • Achieves financial and operational benchmarks by developing capital & operating budgets and monitoring all operational expenses.
  • Assures development, implementation, and evaluation of an evidence-based, quality clinical nursing practice consistent with nursing research, and organizational and national practice standards.
  • Demonstrates initiative and situational leadership skills.
  • Embraces, communicates, and promotes effective change.
  • Cultivates exemplary customer services throughout the unit/department.
  • Serves as a liaison between team members and nursing administration.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Manages various human resources functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and performance counseling.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Uses working knowledge of risk management concepts.
  • Participates in Process Improvement activities as assigned.
  • Interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide nursing care needed as described in the unit/department’s policies and procedures.
