The Perioperative Assistant works primarily in a Perioperative setting to carry out clinician's orders, perform established patient care procedures, and to participate in patient education commensurate with appropriate training. The Perioperative Assistant must be able to work effectively and appropriately with health care providers to assure that patients are treated in accordance with established standards of quality patient care. Strict patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times. Perioperative Assistants are classified as paraprofessionals who perform duties in a Perioperative setting under the supervision of the registered nurse and/or supervising physician. Additionally, the Perioperative Assistant will have clerical responsibilities that facilitate the flow of the areas to which they are assigned within Perioperative Services.
