About The Position

The Perioperative 101 nursing program is a learner-centered and structured, paid training program designed to equip individuals with specialized skills and knowledge in Perioperative (OR) nursing. The program utilizes a blended learning approach, incorporating lectures, demonstrations, and videos, with practical application in lab and clinical settings. The curriculum, based on AORN standards, is fully funded by M Health Fairview. Upon successful completion, participants will receive continuing education contact hours. The program begins on September 28th, 2026, and lasts approximately four months. Training occurs Monday through Friday during the day shift, with potential for varied hours. Evaluation methods include chapter post-tests, a final examination, skill demonstrations, and preceptor observations. A one-year commitment to work as a Curriculating RN at Fairview is required after completing the program. Post-program roles involve day/evening shifts with rotating weekends.

Requirements

  • A current Minnesota RN license by start date.
  • Current BLS certification with American Heart Association or American Red Cross as a Health Care Provider required at the time of application.
  • Strong desire/career goal to work as a RN in the Operating Room environment.
  • Current Fairview employees who have been in their current position for a minimum for 6 months and performance in previous/current Fairview jobs will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN, BAN, Master’s degree in nursing or higher
  • Previous experience in acute care nursing RN, surgical tech/technologist or as an anesthesia aide.
  • One year of nursing experience

Responsibilities

  • Provides services as a circulating nurse and is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for the patient undergoing surgical procedures in the operating room.
  • Performs these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedure, and professional practice guidelines.
  • Coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.
  • May be trained to scrub as well.
