About The Position

The Periop Patient Care Assistant supports the surgical team during the perioperative period by assisting with patient transportation, room turnover, equipment management, and maintaining a safe environment. The role helps ensure efficient workflow and contributes to patient safety and positive surgical outcomes. The employee performs other duties as assigned and carries out all job responsibilities in alignment with Kettering Health’s mission, vision, values, and B Safe program.

On-the-job training is provided. Required competencies include training and competency in malignant hyperthermia, the universal protocol, disaster planning, and hand hygiene.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• No work experience required; on-the-job training is provided.
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or obtain it within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and clinical staff.
• Basic computer and documentation skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
• Knowledge of infection control and safety procedures.
• Physical ability to transport patients and handle equipment safely.
• Attention to detail and time management.
• Training and competency in malignant hyperthermia, the universal protocol, disaster planning, and hand hygiene.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in an acute care or hospital setting preferred.
• High school diploma or GED listed as preferred education.
