About The Position

This position is for a Perinatal Registered Nurse within the AirMed/NICU team. The role involves providing specialized, critical care in challenging environments, including pre-hospital emergency care. Flight nurses assess, stabilize, and treat patients during transport, administer medications, perform advanced life support procedures, and monitor patient condition. The position may be filled at multiple career levels (Nurse Level 2-5), with specific requirements for each level regarding independence, complexity management, and leadership. The University of Utah Health is a Level 1 Trauma Center known for its academic research, quality standards, and patient experience.

Requirements

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah.
Maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
Five (5) years of experience in High Risk Labor and Delivery or level 3 NBICU.
Weight of less than or equal to 215 lbs. fully dressed for flight duty.

Responsibilities

Provide specialized, critical care in critical care and pre-hospital emergency care settings.
Assess, stabilize, and treat patients during transport.
Administer medication.
Perform advanced life support procedures.
Monitor patient condition and outcomes during transport.
Independently manage routine patient care (N2).
Escalate more complex clinical needs as appropriate (N2).
Independently manage typical patient complexity (N3).
Anticipate patient needs (N3).
Adapt care to clinical variations (N3).
Lead complex cases (N4).
Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to other nursing staff (N4).
Autonomously manage the highest risk scenarios (N5).
Advance practice through education and leadership (N5).
