About The Position

The Perinatal Educator provides pre- and post-hospitalization community education programs about birth or the arrival and care of a newborn infant, as well as issues affecting other members of the expectant family. The instructor evaluates participants’ learning and skill development, delivers clear and professional instruction using appropriate teaching tools, and collaborates with the Perinatal Coordinator and other instructors to support and improve educational programming.

Requirements

Must be a New Jersey Registered Nurse and a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Must hold childbirth education certification from CCES, Lamaze International, PCE, or a similar organization, meeting AWHONN guidelines for Perinatal Education.
Minimum of 5 years of RN work experience; Maternal Child Health experience is preferred.
Ability to use VCR and audiovisual equipment.
Must hold a New Jersey State Professional Registered Nurse License.
Must be a Certified Childbirth Educator.

Responsibilities

Collect information from course participants to evaluate teaching effectiveness and determine whether course goals are achieved.
Use appropriate teaching tools and audiovisual aids; assess participants’ learning, knowledge, and ability to perform skills independently.
Demonstrate teaching skills through practical applications in home or community settings, treating learners with sensitivity and tact.
Maintain class pace and encourage participation from all class members.
Communicate suggested changes and improvements to the Perinatal Coordinator and work cooperatively with other instructors.
Teach at the audience’s level and deliver content clearly, engagingly, and professionally while demonstrating subject-matter knowledge.
Complete required paperwork in a timely manner.
Perform other duties or projects as assigned.
Adhere to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
