About The Position

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited perfusion education program acceptable for New York State licensure.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of independent clinical experience as a cardiovascular perfusionist in an adult cardiac surgery program.
  • Current New York State Licensed Perfusionist (or eligible to obtain licensure prior to date of hire).
  • BLS - American Hear Association
  • Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) as a Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP), or eligibility to obtain certification as required by hospital policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) or more years of clinical experience as a cardiovascular perfusionist.
  • Experience with adult ECMO management.
  • Experience with blood conservation techniques including cell salvage.
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to function effectively in high-acuity, fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cardiopulmonary bypass for adult cardiac surgical procedures
  • Operate and monitor heart-lung machines and associated extracorporeal circulation equipment
  • Initiate, maintain, and discontinue extracorporeal circulation while continuously assessing patient physiologic status
  • Prepare, prime, troubleshoot, and maintain perfusion equipment prior to and during procedures
  • Manage anticoagulation, blood conservation strategies, ultrafiltration, and autologous blood recovery as appropriate
  • Provide clinical support for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), including initiation, management, troubleshooting, and transport when required
  • Assist with mechanical circulatory support devices and other advanced perfusion technologies as assigned
  • Accurately document all perfusion procedures in accordance with departmental, regulatory, and accreditation standards
  • Participate in emergency call coverage and respond promptly to emergent cardiovascular procedures
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain all required certifications, licensure, and continuing education requirements
  • Perform other duties related to perfusion services as assigned
