About The Position

This role involves performing clinical perfusion to support or treat the cardiopulmonary and circulatory systems during surgical procedures. The Perfusionist operates extracorporeal circulation equipment during open-heart surgeries and other medical situations requiring cardiopulmonary support or replacement. They ensure proper management of physiologic functions by monitoring essential variables and troubleshooting equipment as needed.

Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
For those trained after April 15, 1981, maintaining cardiovascular perfusion certification or eligibility for certification is required.
Completion of clinical and didactic coursework from an accredited perfusion training program for those trained after April 15, 1981.
Knowledge of cardiovascular and respiratory systems, physiology, anatomy, and electronics.
Experience in applying biology, chemistry, and physiology in a hospital operating room setting.
Open-heart surgery and surgical perfusion procedure experience required.
Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain perfusion and blood salvage equipment.

Advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department policies.

Operate and maintain cardiovascular perfusion, life support, and blood salvage equipment during surgeries.
Monitor and manage physiologic variables to support patient stability and outcomes.
Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain a variety of perfusion and electronic medical equipment.
Support open-heart and surgical perfusion procedures with expertise and precision.
Participate in on-call rotations, providing 24-hour coverage as required.
