This position involves assembling, priming, re-circulating, and testing the extracorporeal circuit prior to the initiation of heart-lung bypass. The role also includes monitoring and observing the operations of the heart-lung machine during procedures, making necessary adjustments based on the patient's physiologic parameters to maintain adequate perfusion, and administering medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents via the extracorporeal circuit. Additionally, the Perfusionist will disassemble and clean equipment, maintain adequate supplies, obtain blood samples, and perform advanced blood therapies.
