This role involves assembling, priming, re-circulating, and testing the extracorporeal circuit prior to the initiation of heart-lung bypass. The Perfusionist will monitor and observe the operations of the heart-lung machine during procedures, making necessary adjustments based on the patient's physiologic parameters to maintain adequate perfusion. Responsibilities also include the administration of medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents via the extracorporeal circuit, as well as disassembling and cleaning the perfusion equipment post-procedure. The role also entails ordering and maintaining adequate supplies, obtaining blood samples, and performing advanced blood therapies such as PRP, platelet gel, hemofiltration, and autotransfusion. All listed responsibilities are considered essential functions of the job.
