About The Position

The primary function of the Staff Perfusionist is the safe operation and management of extracorporeal circulation equipment (heart/lung machine, veno-venous bypass, ventricular assist devices, extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation) during any medical or surgical procedure where it is necessary to support or replace the patient’s cardiopulmonary/circulatory function (open-heart surgery, liver transplantation, etc.). In addition, the Staff Perfusionist is responsible for the set-up, delivery, management, maintenance, and operation of other relevant ancillary services, devices, and equipment (i.e intra-aortic balloon pumps, autologous blood recovery systems, ventricular assist devices (VAD), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), point of care (POC) laboratory testing equipment). This position requires providing service for adults (18 – 64 years), older adults (65 years and older), and the frail elderly in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served. There is call (after hours, weekends) required. Holiday call is also required.

Requirements

  • Graduates of an accredited Perfusion School unless they began their perfusion career prior to April 15, 1981.
  • If they started their perfusion career before April 15, 1981, they must have 2 years of college (60 credits) with an emphasis in science.
  • Licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine or the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine and renewed on a biannual basis.
  • Certified (CCP) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
  • Certification Eligible by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ACP). This certification must be renewed annually.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare field preferred.
  • New graduates, as well as experienced perfusionists, will be considered for employment.

Responsibilities
