About The Position

The Rochester City School District (RCSD) is seeking Certified Per Diem Substitute Teachers who may also work as Building Subs. These individuals will fill in for Teacher absences and follow the Teachers’ lesson plans to ensure that instruction stays on track for students. Long Term subs will develop and deliver lesson plans and provide all duties of a full-time teacher. The Per Diem Substitute Teacher provides continuity of quality instruction to RCSD students during the absence of the regular teacher, adhering to all RCSD policies and procedures, as well as those outlined in the handbook and the current contractual agreement. The role involves following established routines and procedures, seeking to achieve classroom goals and objectives developed by the absent teacher, and assuming responsibility for classroom management during instruction, lunch, and recess periods. The substitute will also inform the absent teacher of classroom activities, work completed, homework assigned, any problems that occurred, and methods used to solve them. PDS Teachers may perform other related duties as assigned by school building administrators.

Requirements

  • Any New York State certificate allows an individual to work as a Per Diem Teacher.
  • Candidates not holding a NYS Certificate must be fingerprinted.
  • Candidates not holding a NYS Certificate must have New York State Education Department employment clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Follows established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
  • Seeks to achieve classroom goals and objectives developed by the absent teacher.
  • Assumes the responsibility for classroom management while delivering curriculum, but also during lunch and recess periods when needed.
  • Informs the absent teacher (via written communication) of classroom activities, i.e. work completed, homework assigned, any problems which occurred and methods used to solve them.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned by school building administrators.
