About The Position

Provides patient-centered pharmaceutical care by performing medication-related duties that involve prescription verification, processing, dispensing, consultation, and education. Assists pharmacy leadership with overseeing pharmacy technicians and ensuring regulatory compliance. This role is specifically for the retail/community pharmacy setting and involves adhering to all Federal and State Laws pertaining to dispensing and filling of authorized prescription medications and supplies. Responsibilities include selecting medication, filling prescriptions, and maintaining knowledge of and compliance with regulations for dispensing controlled and non-controlled substances, including proper record keeping and inventory reports. The role also requires knowledge of 340B rules and regulations, assisting customers with insurance issues (prior authorizations, contacting physicians for therapeutic interchanges), and maintaining knowledge of third-party insurance processes. Consultation services regarding medication utilization and safety for both prescription and over-the-counter medications are expected, along with consulting with other healthcare providers and payers. The position involves assisting with maintaining records and reporting as per the California State Board of Pharmacy, reporting and correcting CURES information, maintaining control substance logs, and assisting with inventory control for timely prescription processing. Reporting dispensing errors, medication errors, or HIPAA violations is also a key responsibility, as is providing consultative services to patients on medication-related matters and assisting with end-of-month reports and data analysis.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Ensures appropriate medication storage, security and regulatory compliance in assigned area of practice
  • Adheres to all Federal and State Laws pertaining to dispensing and filling of authorized prescription medications and supplies, including but not limited to receiving and verifying prescriptions, selecting medication and filling prescriptions.
  • Adheres to all departmental policies and procedures and regulations.
  • Dispenses medication, supplies or equipment accurately and efficiently.
  • Knowledgeable, compliant and adheres to regulations in dispensing control and non-controlled substances, including proper record keeping and documenting necessary monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory reports.
  • Knowledgeable with 340B rules and regulations and ensures pharmacy maintains compliance.
  • Assists customers with insurance issues, including obtaining prior authorizations and contacting physicians or other health providers on possible therapeutic interchanges.
  • Maintains knowledge and facilitates third party insurance, including Prior Authorization process, Medication Formularies, Wellness programs, coupons, discounts, worker’s compensation and other sources of payments, member's enrollment and eligibility.
  • Provides consultation services regarding medication utilization and safety as appropriate for both prescription and over the counter medications and in guidelines of the California State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Consults with other health care providers, information resources and payers to optimize therapy and maximize safety.
  • Assists PIC with maintaining records and reporting in accordance to California State Board of Pharmacy prescription records, electronic records and faxes.
  • Reports, corrects and maintains CURES information, Control Substances log, prescription records, Pharmacy specific records such as prescription logs, sales transactions, monitors receipts of payments including reconciliation and sales taxes.
  • Assists PIC with adequate inventory control to process prescriptions in a timely manner.
  • Reports any dispensing errors, medication errors or HIPAA violations in accordance to KD's policies.
  • Provides consultative services to patients on medication related matters.
  • Assists PIC in preparing necessary end of month reports, data analysis and other reporting needs as required.
