About The Position

XP Health is seeking contract opticians for a temporary research study to validate a new remote method for measuring the optical center (OC) of lenses, comparing it to the current in-person process for progressive lens orders. Approximately 30 participants will complete both an at-home and an in-office phase. The role involves working scheduled office days, running parallel stations to ensure participant flow efficiency.

Requirements

  • Licensed optician (ABO certified or state-equivalent).
  • Hands-on experience marking optical center / segment height on lenses.
  • Comfortable following a structured research protocol precisely without improvisation.
  • Ability to work efficiently and consistently throughout a full day of back-to-back participant sessions.
  • Available to work onsite at the San Carlos office full-time (approx. 9am–5pm) for the entire study duration.
  • Available from October through November.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a research study or supporting a clinical study.

Responsibilities

  • Perform "dotting" for each participant by manually marking the precise optical center point on supplied test lenses/frames.
  • Work through approximately 10 frames per participant, maintaining a pace of about 3 minutes of dotting per frame to keep sessions on schedule.
  • Operate a station in parallel with two other opticians (3 stations total) during office days.
  • Coordinate with the on-site research assistant (RA) for participant check-in, frame staging, and schedule management.
  • Complete CITI training (human-subjects research ethics) if not already certified, prior to any participant contact.
