About The Position

Interventional Radiology (IR) Nurse practitioners (NP) involve acute clinical care preparation of patients prior to procedure through comprehensive assessments, clinical work-up, and follow up care. Delivers general nursing care to patients in all areas of the Radiology/Imaging Department, assesses patient condition and takes immediate action in emergencies. Responds to patient needs before, during and after procedures including assessment of condition, cardiac arrest, and intravenous problems. Perform pre-examination and post-examination assessments for angiography, CT scan and minor special procedures, including physical exam with extremity pulses, allergies, current medication and medical history which would have an adverse effect on the patient or exam and sedation analgesia. Educate patients and families about pre, intra and post procedure care. Documents care and relay information to physician and patient care unit. Follows established standards and practices under the direction of a credentialed radiologist.

Requirements

  • Currently practicing as NP in Critical Care/Radiology/Interventional Radiology
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in acute/critical care hospital settings
  • BCLS, ACLS, PALS Certification required
  • Successful completion of St. Barnabas Hospital Orientation Program
  • Mental and physical health to meet the demands of the position
