Position Summary We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated nurse to join our Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) department at City of Hope. In this role, you will play a critical role in the healthcare continuum, providing specialized care to patients recovering from anesthesia and surgery. Your responsibilities encompass various aspects of patient care, from monitoring vital signs to managing pain and ensuring a smooth transition from the operating room to the recovery phase. Your expertise in the PACU is essential to ensuring patient safety, comfort, and a successful post-operative recovery. You will be an integral part of our dedicated team of healthcare professionals committed to making a difference in the lives of cancer patients. The schedule for this opportunity is per diem, 12-hour shifts, and is designated for the evening shift (variable start times between 10:00am-12:00pm). The per diem flat rate for this position is $81.16/hr. This position is also eligible for a unit differential up to $2.23/hr additional and shift differentials up to $2.75/hr additional. There is a minimum of 1 shift per week availability required for per diem positions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in Nursing is required. If ADN only, must obtain BSN within three years of hire or transfer
  • Current California RN license
  • Minimum of 1 (one) year experience in an acute care setting and/or outpatient setting, PACU or Critical Care experience preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card through American Heart Association
  • ACLS through American Heart Association
  • PALS through American Heart Association

Nice To Haves

  • PACU or Critical Care experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert nursing care to patients recovering from surgery and anesthesia.
  • Monitor vital signs, assess pain levels, and administer medications as needed to ensure optimal recovery.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments and collaborate with healthcare teams to develop individualized care plans.
  • Recognize and respond to any post-operative complications promptly.
  • Educate patients and their families about post-operative care, including pain management, wound care, and discharge instructions, ensuring they are well-informed and comfortable during their recovery.
  • Use clinical expertise to make informed decisions, evaluate patient responses to treatments, and intervene when necessary.
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the recovery process.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Adhere to City of Hope's high standards for patient care, safety, and infection control protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
