Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Join our Spiritual Care team as a Per Diem Chaplain! Role Overview: As a Per Diem Chaplain at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, you will provide compassionate spiritual and emotional support to patients, their loved ones, and staff across a diverse healthcare environment. You will serve as an important member of the interdisciplinary care team while helping support the spiritual, religious, and emotional needs of those navigating serious illness and treatment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Enrollment in or completion of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required
  • Actively working toward certification through a recognized chaplaincy organization (APC, NACC, NAJC, or equivalent)
  • If ordained, must be in good standing with the endorsing religious body
  • Compassionate patient and family support
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Cultural humility and sensitivity across diverse faith traditions
  • Professionalism, empathy, and emotional resilience

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Theology, Divinity, Spiritual Care, or related field preferred
  • 2–4 years of spiritual/pastoral care experience preferred
  • four units of ACPE preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide spiritual care, counseling, and emotional support to patients and caregivers in both individual and group settings
  • Support patients and families with religious observances, rituals, and spiritual practices across diverse faith traditions
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, including participation in rounds and patient care discussions
  • Document spiritual care interventions within the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Participate in on-call and holiday coverage as part of the Spiritual Care team
  • Serve as a resource to staff regarding spiritual care needs, cultural sensitivity, and religious practices
