About The Position

As Fastly’s People Systems Architect, you will serve as the internal Workday functional SME, partnering with the People team to strategize and execute plans for configuring and extending Workday functionality to support digital transformation and drive new capabilities and data insights. You will be responsible for the successful implementation of new functionality and/or processes within project timelines, as well as the optimization and fine-tuning of existing functionality and processes. You will be relied upon for your deep Workday knowledge to help gather and translate requirements and to design, configure, test and deploy new modules, or improve existing functionality and modules, to support efficiency at scale. This role demands deep knowledge of Workday, functional HR and business process knowledge, experience with enterprise-wide technology implementations, and an ability to drive successful cross-functional collaboration and communication. This is an ideal role for someone who gets inspired by translating requirements into tactical execution, is passionate about thoughtful design and process optimization, and enjoys collaborating with and teaching others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5-8 years of progressive Workday or HR technology experience, including significant hands-on Workday configuration experience.
  • Deep Workday configuration experience in at least three of the following areas: Absence, Benefits, Compensation, Performance, Talent, Time Off, Time Tracking, Payroll, or Core HCM. Compensation is a must.
  • Hands-on experience with Workday business processes, calculated fields, condition rules, reporting, EIBs, data validation, and basic Workday security concepts.
  • Experience supporting Workday releases, production issues, UAT, enhancement delivery, and cross-functional technology projects.
  • Ability to understand how changes in one functional area affect connected processes, downstream systems, reporting, and the broader employee experience.
  • Self-starter who is highly motivated, adaptable, and able to shift priorities quickly while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and the ability to make thoughtful decisions independently in an evolving environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain Workday functionality and technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Successful track record of building trusted relationships with People leadership, COEs, IT, vendors, and other key stakeholders while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead HR technology projects of varying complexity, including the annual compensation cycle, semi-annual performance reviews, and learning initiatives.
  • Partner with People COEs and business stakeholders to identify process improvements, apply Workday best practices, and recommend solutions that address business needs.
  • Gather, clarify, and document business requirements; translate them into process designs, configuration plans, and actionable delivery plans.
  • Configure and optimize Workday business processes, calculated fields, condition rules, security, and related functionality across assigned areas.
  • Manage testing by defining scenarios and use cases, developing test scripts, coordinating cross-functional testing, and leading or supporting UAT.
  • Create, maintain and support Workday reports. Ability to create dashboards utilizing Workday reporting tools such Prism Analytics and Discovery Board a plus.
  • Manage EIBs and support recurring and ad hoc data loads, imports, exports, validation, and reconciliation activities.
  • Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 Workday support, troubleshoot complex issues, identify root causes, coordinate escalations, and drive issues through resolution.
  • Lead or support Workday release readiness, including impact assessments, regression testing, stakeholder communication, and adoption of relevant new functionality.
  • Own the ongoing administration, optimization, and operational health of Workday across assigned functional areas, including data quality, reporting, integrations, and tenant-related activities.
  • Partner with People leadership and COEs to evaluate enhancement requests, prioritize work, assess risks and dependencies, and contribute to the People Systems roadmap.
  • Maintain clear configuration documentation, process documentation, training materials, and knowledge resources to support operational continuity and effective user adoption.
  • Support SOX and other compliance activities by maintaining appropriate controls, documentation, testing evidence, and audit readiness.
