People Operations Manager

Key TechBaltimore, MD
1d$75,000 - $85,000Onsite

About The Position

Creative engineering design work, exceptionally interesting people, fun culture … this is Key Tech. Housed in a gorgeous modern office, Key Tech is the most exciting engineering company on the East Coast. We do real high-tech engineering of medical devices in a laid-back setting. Dog-friendly office, roof deck lunches, casual dress code, employee-owned. We have all of the opportunities of a large company, and all of the fun of a small one. The Role We're looking for our first dedicated People Ops person. Not someone who wants to sit in an office writing policies - someone who wants to build the people infrastructure that helps Key Tech scale (without losing what makes this a truly special place). You'll work directly with our Department of People (DOP) Steering Committee, helping them think strategically about talent while executing the day-to-day of HR operations. This is a team-of-one role, but you'll have a strategic HR advisor to help when you need it. Real autonomy. Real impact. The kind of growth you'd get in three years somewhere else, you'll get here in one.

Requirements

  • At least 2-5 years work experience in HR, people operations, or something adjacent (recruiting, employee relations, HR coordination)
  • Experience owning and building a process, program, system, or initiative. (We want someone who can help us build the HR structure, not just maintain what exists today.)
  • Strong project management instincts and experience. You can juggle multiple initiatives without dropping the ball
  • Exceptional people skills. You can read a room and build trust quickly
  • Genuine belief that culture is a competitive advantage and that people operations is a strategic business function
  • Comfort working independently while knowing when to ask for help
  • Practical knowledge of core HR functions like policies, benefits, compliance (even if you haven't owned them fully)
  • Experience working in people operations at a startup or small company

Responsibilities

  • Partner with DOP Steering Committee to translate organizational needs into actionable HR priorities, providing dedicated support for ongoing projects while building your own expertise
  • Design and implement foundational HR practices across onboarding, performance management, and employee development
  • Coordinate across functions to ensure DOP initiatives are supported and implemented. You'll be the connection point that helps create a cohesive employee experience
  • Support HR policy and practice development , creating clear, fair, and culture-aligned approaches that scale with the company
  • Champion employee experience and DEI , embedding these principles into everything from how we write job descriptions to how we recognize good performance
  • Actively participate as a member of the DOP, contributing your perspective and HR knowledge to strategic discussions
  • Partner with your strategic HR advisor to help you learn proven HR strategies quickly and with support
  • Partner with other members of the DOP (office manager, recruiting coordinator, etc) to advise and develop policy across the company.

Benefits

  • Dog-friendly office
  • roof deck lunches
  • employee ownership
  • casual dress
  • exceptionally interesting colleagues
