About The Position

1X is building humanoid robots for home use, aiming to automate chores and give people back their time. This involves solving complex challenges in robotics, AI, and manufacturing at scale, with a focus on safety for home environments. The company has been developing these robots since 2014 and is now focused on shipping its flagship product, NEO. 1X is seeking individuals inspired by this mission to join their scaling team and contribute to changing how humans spend their time by creating abundance safely. The People team at 1X is responsible for building the programs, systems, and employee experiences that enable the company's growth while maintaining high operational standards. They collaborate across departments to provide employees and managers with the necessary support, tools, and processes. As a People Operations Generalist, your role is to own and enhance core People Operations programs that support employees throughout their tenure at 1X. This includes managing onboarding, offboarding, HR systems, payroll coordination, benefits, leave, compliance, and other recurring People programs, ensuring they are accurate, efficient, and provide an excellent employee experience. You will balance hands-on execution with continuous improvement, seeking opportunities to automate tasks, strengthen compliance, improve data accuracy, and develop scalable People Operations processes.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in People Operations, HR Operations, or an HR Generalist role, with hands-on ownership of employee lifecycle processes.
  • Hands-on HRIS administration experience, including employee records, workflow configuration, reporting, and data integrity; Rippling experience is ideal.
  • Working knowledge of employment law, with particular depth in California requirements, including leave administration and wage and hour compliance.
  • Experience partnering with Payroll and Finance on employee changes, payroll-impacting events, benefits, leaves, and related reconciliations.
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills and demonstrated ability to audit and reconcile HR data across systems, records, and trackers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Rippling’s Custom Integration Platform (CIP) or similar HRIS integration and workflow automation tools.
  • Multi-state People Operations experience.
  • Experience supporting EEO-1, California Pay Data, ACA, 401(k), and other recurring HR compliance or reporting requirements.
  • Experience with Tilt, Ashby, Rippling, or similar People technology platforms.
  • Experience using Claude or other AI tools to automate, streamline, or improve recurring People Operations processes.

Responsibilities

  • Own and continuously improve core People Operations programs that support employees throughout their lifecycle at 1X.
  • Ensure onboarding, offboarding, HR systems, payroll coordination, benefits, leave, compliance, and recurring People programs operate accurately and efficiently while delivering an exceptional employee experience.
  • Balance hands-on execution with continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to automate work, strengthen compliance, improve data integrity, and build People Operations processes that can scale with 1X.
  • Own a seamless and scalable employee lifecycle experience, including onboarding and offboarding, with accurate and timely coordination across People, IT, Finance, Payroll, and hiring managers.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready employee data and scalable People workflows in Rippling, while identifying and implementing automation opportunities that reduce manual work and improve the employee experience.
  • Ensure payroll-impacting employee changes, benefits, leaves, and employment transitions are processed accurately and on time through strong partnership with Payroll and Finance.
  • Deliver compliant and employee-centered administration of benefits and leave programs, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, parental leave, and 401(k) coordination.
  • Maintain strong People Operations compliance and reporting practices, including I-9 administration, wage and hour requirements, EEO-1, California Pay Data Reporting, ACA reporting, policy documentation, and proactive identification of compliance gaps.
