About The Position

The People & Culture Manager at Harvest Home is responsible for cultivating a team environment where staff feel supported, heard, and cared for throughout their entire experience from hiring and onboarding through ongoing growth and development. This role serves as a steady, welcoming, and trusted point-of-contact for employees, helping to foster a culture that is warm, responsive, and grounded in care. It also plays a key role in shaping how volunteers experience Harvest Home, ensuring that every interaction reflects professionalism, hospitality, and authentic gratitude. Because we believe that a healthy, well-supported team is essential to the impact of our mission, this role helps ensure that our team feels encouraged and cared for so they can sustainably care for others. In addition, this role oversees Volunteer Operations, ensuring volunteers feel welcomed, prepared, and meaningfully connected to the work of the organization. This position partners closely with the Director of Strategic Operations to implement people strategies and strengthen the overall team experience.

Nice To Haves

  • 2–5 years of experience in nonprofit or business operations
  • 2+ years in a People Operations, HR, or related role
  • Experience managing hiring and onboarding processes
  • Experience supporting employee engagement, culture initiatives, or volunteer programs
  • SHRM-C Certification (or willingness to obtain; Harvest Home will support this process)

Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute the full recruitment cycle, including job postings, candidate coordination, and communication
  • Support interview processes and partner with hiring managers to ensure a thoughtful and welcoming candidate experience
  • Facilitate onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure smooth, aligned, and supportive transitions
  • Maintain onboarding materials, internal tools, and employee records
  • Represent Harvest Home at job fairs and recruitment events
  • Design and lead meaningful moments of connection, celebration, and care that foster a sense of belonging
  • Oversee staff celebrations, recognition efforts, and team gatherings
  • Lead Harvest Home Cares initiatives to support staff through life events and challenges
  • Coordinate trainings, team meetings, and development opportunities
  • Steward culture initiatives in a way that reflects warmth, hospitality, and intentional care
  • Administer employee feedback tools (e.g., eNPS, wellbeing surveys) and track and synthesize insights
  • Partner with leadership to implement improvements based on employee feedback, strengthening team experience and engagement
  • Assist with cross-functional coordination as needed to support team and program effectiveness
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal labor laws through tracking, documentation, and updates
  • Manage employee records, certifications, and required trainings
  • Maintain and update the Employee Handbook, HR policies, and SOPs
  • Support employee relations processes, including documentation and coordination for grievances and incidents
  • Partner with leadership to ensure consistent and compliant HR practices
  • Coordinate and manage performance review cycles (30/60/90-day and annual reviews)
  • Track progress and ensure consistency across teams
  • Support supervisors in navigating performance conversations, documentation, and development plans
  • Serve as a resource for both employees and managers for ongoing support and guidance
  • Serve as the primary point-of-contact for all volunteers and prospective volunteers
  • Manage volunteer recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and ongoing communication
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with volunteers and community partners
  • Coordinate volunteer engagement efforts, events, and appreciation initiatives
  • Track participation and identify opportunities to strengthen the volunteer experience
  • Develop and distribute regular volunteer communications (e.g., newsletters)
  • Partner with program and fundraising teams to align volunteer support with organizational needs
