About The Position

The Enterprise Information and Analytics (EIA) department aims to advance UCSF’s institutional priorities by improving data and analytics access and utilization. This includes managing data platforms and governance to meet the needs of education, research, and care missions. The department achieves its goals by collaborating with clinical, research, education, and business partners to organize, integrate, govern, and transform UCSF’s data assets into actionable insights. UCSF People Analytics is a key program supporting UCSF Health in attracting, developing, engaging, and retaining top talent through proactive, strategic, and predictive analytics. This role, reporting to the Director of People Analytics, is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the People Analytics team and providing guidance on internal processes and tools. The manager receives objectives and determines the best use of resources to meet schedules and goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience with a programming language such as SQL / R/ Python.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience leading people or direct supervisory experience.
  • Experience in the management of ongoing technology infrastructure acquisition and expansion, to include the identification and integration of suitable emerging technologies.
  • Experienced in leading change management activities and managing their impact across the unit or department.
  • Requires thorough knowledge of database management systems sufficient for strategic planning, technology assessment, and direction.
  • Requires knowledge of technical architecture, maintenance, planning, and integration strategies.
  • Critical thinking, persuasion/negotiation, mentoring, leadership/management, problem solving, and human resource policies and procedures relating to management responsibilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Strong technical database systems management abilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of technical concepts and basic operating principles of data communications, computer hardware, vendor IT products, and software.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees operational stewardship of People Analytics data assets, including prioritization and maintenance of activities, platform enhancements, data quality remediation, and service delivery commitments.
  • Establishes and enforces operational standards for data lifecycle management, metadata stewardship, documentation, change control, and production support activities.
  • Guides accuracy and execution of assignments by teammates.
  • Prioritizes work for analysts based on roadmap and priorities outlined by Director.
  • Ensures continuity of ETL data pipelines.
  • Ensures quality of existing work, including dashboards and automated reporting.
  • Implements new strategies and efficiencies to support the team.
  • Coordinates across HR, Enterprise Information & Analytics, and Enterprise Systems to ensure continuity, integrity, and appropriate use of enterprise workforce data assets.
  • Supports analysts in translating business requirements into cohesive data models.
  • Oversees planning and execution of departmental platform and content transitions.
  • Directs and manages vendor work product to ensure quality and continuity for data models and reporting.
  • Manages department human resources activities including recruitment, training, performance management and evaluation, corrective action, and separation for reporting staff.
  • Develops and revises job descriptions.
  • Models and fosters a culture of teamwork, innovation, and collaboration.
