About The Position

This position's purpose is to perform duties and tasks for the pellet process, and to help assist the Shift Supervisor, and Pellet Plant Supervisor as assigned with the day-to-day operations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent, preferred but not required.
  • Able to pass standard aptitude test.
  • Excellent mathematical and communication skills be strongly detail oriented and be able to easily multi-task.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in written and verbal form with co-workers, supervisor and management.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team member.
  • Must be willing and able to work shift work, days or nights.
  • Follow written (Standard Operating Procedures -SOP’s, company memos & emails) and verbal Instructions.
  • Possess a strong work ethic to positively contribute to the company’s mission, vision, values, environmental, and quality policies.
  • Must have a positive attitude, support co-workers to obtain desired objectives, and assist others in their contributions.
  • Ability to sit/stand/walk for extended periods of time and access stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat occasionally to frequently.
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (in required areas) for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift (up to 50 lbs.), carry (up to 44 lbs.) occasionally to frequently within normal limits.
  • Ability to adapt to changing paces and processes quickly.
  • Attentive to the task and own surroundings.
  • Preferably able to speak English, but not required.
  • Handle hazardous chemicals safely according to their SDS’s.
  • Should be able to independently initiate, prioritize, and perform or solve work problems and ultimately achieve work objectives and meet deadlines.
  • Minimum three months related experience with demonstrated aptitude to learn on-the-job.
  • Familiarity with plant equipment operations, ability to start up and shutdown.
  • Able to Work with WMS Operating Software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Package (excel, word) and Bar Tender Label Software.
  • Must demonstrate computer knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift and be certified.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Shift Supervisor with entire shift, including personnel, safety, PM of equipment, operation of equipment, production throughput, and all aspects of production quality.
  • Assist with schedule breaks/lunches and all processing functions with personnel available, while maintaining production throughput and all aspects of production quality.
  • Be able to perform duties of Shift Supervisor, operator and laborer while assisting/training when needed.
  • Responsible for Overseeing Laborer and Operator job duties and responsibilities.
  • Problem-solve and make decisions that will positively impact the manufacturing of products.
  • Monitor production to meet delivery and quality requirements.
  • Understand and be able to carry out specific instructions of "Production Workorders."
  • Record the weight, temperature and moisture of product.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in operating bale breaker, hammer mill, mix tank, Pellet Mill, Cooler, Viking VFFS, case erector, and packaging line Wulftec Wrapper.
  • Able to properly document quality control documents and production documents.
  • Build knowledge of troubleshooting processing equipment.
  • Operation and understanding of the pellet filling machine(s).
  • Complete understanding of VFFS machines, including troubleshooting and fine tune adjustments.
  • Quality checks throughout the pelleting operation.
  • Physically checking and documentation of quality points.
  • Double checking quality documentation.
  • Able to compile all documentation for production folder prior to hand off to Production Coordinator.
  • Troubleshoot process upsets, equipment malfunction and yield variances.
  • Learn and understand the duties of the Assistant Supervisor and Shift Supervisor.
  • Train Laborers and Operator(s) to perform job duties, as needed.
  • Complete required paperwork timely and accurately.
  • Assist with housekeeping duties.
  • Assist Maintenance Team as needed.
  • Responsible for covering vacation and sick leave for Pellet Plant Shift Supervisor & Pellet Plant Operators, as needed.
  • When filling in for Pellet Plant Shift Supervisor, must be capable of all supervisor responsibilities including but not limited to: Operation of all equipment, supervising employees, and leading co-workers to maintain a safe and productive workplace.
  • Must follow all SOPs in the given work area.
  • Maintain sanitary and safe working environment.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve process efficiency.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Pellet Plant Process.
  • Review employee workflow. If SOPs are not being followed, recommendations to be made to Manager on workflow efficiencies.
  • Work in conjunction with Lean principles in the Pellet Plant.
  • Assure that company safety policies as well as federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations are observed.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve process efficiency and notify immediate supervisor of observations and recommendations.
  • May actively participate on company’s Safety Committee if assigned to.
  • Must have a complete understanding of company’s policies, Employee Handbook, SOPs, QPs, EPs, HACCP and cGMP that pertain to their department to ensure quality, safety, efficiency and sustainability.
  • Examine documents, materials, and products and monitor work processes to assess completeness, accuracy and conformance to standards and specifications.
  • Follow safety requirements.
  • Follow all instructions from the Manager.
  • Must adhere to all company policies.
  • Notify immediate supervisor if you identify or recommend ways to improve process efficiency.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Manager and/or his designee.
