About The Position

CAD Railway Industries is an ambitious Quebec-based company that has been in operation for over 60 years. We specialize in the repair, conversion, and refurbishment of rolling railway equipment (various types of wagons and locomotives) with workshops and offices in Montreal (Lachine area) and Alberta (under the Caltrax banner). Over the years, our mission has evolved to become a responsible company focused on repairing and extending the lifespan of equipment entrusted to us by our clients. In many cases, we modernize these assets, essentially giving them a second life. Our teams design equipment that meets the needs of both freight and passenger clients. The person in this position will be responsible for preparing parts and equipment for cleaning, sandblasting, masking, as well as preparing the paint and compounds to achieve the desired texture. They must then use precision and attention to detail to paint the required parts with the help of various painting techniques.

Requirements

  • Hold a vocational diploma (DEP) in industrial painting, auto body, or any equivalent experience.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of experience in painting, preferably in manufacturing, aerospace, or the railway industry.
  • Be able to read and understand written English due to work instructions, specifications, and technical notes in English in the railway field.
  • Know paint ratios.
  • Master surface coating application techniques (epoxy paint, epoxy primer, and polyurethane).
  • Be in good physical condition.
  • Be able to perform basic calculations.
  • Be flexible regarding the tasks to be performed.
  • Be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Methodical, meticulous, and attentive to detail.
  • Able to work standing and lift up to 18 kilograms (40 lbs).
  • Able to work in difficult conditions: heat, cold, noise, dust, odors, confined spaces, and heights.
  • Not allergic to epoxy.

Responsibilities

  • Paint wagons and locomotives.
  • Identify defects on parts and vehicles.
  • Prepare parts and equipment for painting work (cleaning, sandblasting, masking).
  • Prepare paint and compounds to achieve the desired color and texture.
  • Apply paint using airless, conventional, polyurethane, epoxy, and epoxy primer methods.
  • Apply stencils and do touch-ups using a brush or roller.
  • Check the quality of the work.
  • Store equipment and clean the work area.
