About The Position

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) and cooperation with the Humanities department, is hiring Peer Writing Tutors for the 2023/2024 academic year. Peer Writing Tutors will meet one-on-one with students in person and/or virtually, visit writing classes to provide in-class assistance, assist students with getting started on a paper by brainstorming ideas and developing thesis statements, continue to work with students by revising and reorganizing drafts, review final projects for clarity, flow, spelling and grammar, and provide a supportive environment for the writing process.

Requirements

Be a MassArt Student, recommended for the position by a MassArt Humanities instructor
Have knowledge of common writing conventions, including grammar and mechanics
A willingness to work with other students on all stages of the writing process including brainstorming, researching, drafting, revising and reviewing the final paper
Eligible to work in the US at the time of employment
Complete all onboarding tasks including a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background review
Provide proof of eligibility to work in the US by completing the Form 19, Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986
Show proof of your identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of the start of your employment

Responsibilities

Set a weekly schedule with ARC
Attend a training on tutoring techniques
Meet one-on-one with students in person and/or virtually
Visit writing classes to provide in-class assistance, when asked and if it works with scheduling
Assist students with getting started on a paper by brainstorming ideas and developing thesis statements
Continuing to work with students by revising and reorganizing drafts
Reviewing final projects for clarity, flow, spelling and grammar
Providing a supportive environment for the writing process
