About The Position

Pathways to Life, Inc. is expanding its clinical support team by adding Peer Support Specialists to support multiple service lines as our programs grow across community-based care in Eastern North Carolina. This role is for individuals with lived experience in mental health and/or substance use recovery who are certified (or working towards certification) as a Peer Support Specialist. The work focuses on using that experience to support others in real-world settings, including homes, community spaces, and with service providers. Peer Support Specialists will support members across different service areas, helping to reduce gaps in access and increase time spent in the community with direct support. The service area includes Greenville and surrounding counties.

Requirements

  • NC Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS)
  • Lived experience in recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to travel across Greenville and surrounding areas during the workday
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Basic documentation and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Work in community-based behavioral health settings
  • Exposure to Medicaid-funded behavioral health services (MCOs such as Vaya, Partners, Trillium)
  • Use of electronic health record (EHR) systems

Responsibilities

  • Use lived experience to support recovery, daily functioning, and community stability.
  • Meet members in community settings (home visits, appointments, public spaces).
  • Support daily routines (housing stability, appointments, basic structure).
  • Help members connect to services (healthcare, benefits, housing, employment supports).
  • Participate in Person-Centered Plan development with clinical teams.
  • Work alongside CST Qualified Professionals and licensed staff on shared care plans.
  • Provide peer-based de-escalation support when situations become difficult.
  • Document services in the EHR in line with Medicaid / MCO requirements.
  • Attend team meetings and supervision sessions to coordinate care and adjust support plans.
