About The Position

Yamhill County has one regular full-time position (36 hours/week) for a Peer Support Specialist to work closely with the Yamhill County mobile crisis team, Community Outreach Services, providing a wide range of supports and advocacy to individuals with immediate behavioral health concerns. The person in this position will assist individuals through crisis situations, assist with accessing resources, addressing barriers related to behavioral health disorders treatment, and engage in proactive outreach throughout the community. Community-based mobile crisis services use face-to-face professional and peer intervention, deployed in the real time to the location of a person in crisis, in order to achieve the needed and best outcomes for that individual. Peer support workers often take the lead on engagement and may also assist with continuity of care by providing support that continues beyond the resolution of the immediate crisis.

Requirements

• A Peer Support Specialist certification from a state-approved program or ability to obtain certification within two months of hire
• An NPI number or ability to obtain one upon employment
• A self-identified current or former recipient of mental health or substance use services who embraces the philosophy of resilience and recovery
• Willingness to be a role model for persons receiving mental health/ or substance use services
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• General keyboarding and computer skills (including working knowledge of Microsoft Office)
• A valid license to drive in Oregon
• Excellent personal boundaries, organizational skills, and demonstrated honesty, accuracy, and integrity
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of this classification with or without accommodation
• Must not be excluded from participation in federal health care programs (Medicaid, Medicare, and other federally funded programs that provide health benefits)
• Must not be excluded from participation in federal procurement (Federal Acquisition Regulation) and non-procurement activities (Executive Order No. 12549)

Nice To Haves

• Experience with an array of mental health/substance use services such as medication management, supported housing, supported employment, hospitalization, etc.
• Personal experience and knowledge of recovery
