About The Position

The Peer Support Specialist at LIFESTREAM BEHAVIORAL CENTER is responsible for providing support, encouragement, and guidance to individuals experiencing mental health challenges. The role involves leveraging personal experiences with mental health recovery to inspire hope and motivate clients towards achieving their personal recovery goals. The Peer Support Specialist acts as a role model and advocate, promoting self-determination and empowerment.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in a mental health or substance use disorder setting.
Personal experience with recovery from mental health or substance use challenges is highly valued.
Experience working in a team-oriented environment, preferably in a behavioral health setting.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with clients and colleagues.
Ability to use personal recovery experiences to support and inspire others in their recovery journey.
Proficiency in maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards.
Capability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health records.
Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries and foster a supportive environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

Nice To Haves

Completion of a Peer Support Specialist certification program is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide one-on-one peer support and mentoring to clients, utilizing personal experiences to offer empathy and understanding.
Assist clients in developing recovery plans and setting achievable goals, while encouraging self-advocacy and personal responsibility.
Facilitate peer support groups and workshops, fostering a supportive community environment.
Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure comprehensive care and support for clients.
