About The Position

Provides mental health support to patients, typically based upon their own experiences. This unique position requires that a Peer Support Specialist Self-identify as a present or former primary consumer of mental health services. The role involves providing direct supportive services to individuals with mental health symptoms, assisting clients in generating proactive solutions to barriers regarding their recovery, and completing documentation in a timely and accurate manner. The specialist will also complete trainings, attend meetings, and participate in care coordination to collaborate with community partners, caregivers, family members, physicians, and other treatment providers regularly. The position requires acting in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values, and abiding by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI). Maintaining effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public is also essential.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age and at least three years older than the youth.
  • Self-identify as a present or former primary consumer of mental health services
  • Minimum of one year in stable recovery
  • State training as identified
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance and a dependable vehicle

Nice To Haves

  • Two years’ experience working with adults in a health-related field
  • BHS Certification for Peer Support Specialists in Kansas (KDADS)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office programs
  • Ability to develop and mentor others.
  • Oral communication, interpersonal skills, flexibility, problem-solving skills

Responsibilities
