About The Position

Sanctuary Recovery Centers is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of individuals and communities through innovative outreach initiatives. We are committed to promoting mental health awareness, reducing stigma and providing support to those in need within our community. Peer Support Specialist will play a vital role in providing empathetic support, encouragement, and guidance to individuals facing mental health challenges. Drawing upon their own lived experiences, the Peer Support Specialist will serve as a mentor and advocate, fostering empowerment and resilience among clients.

Requirements

  • Highschool diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in the behavioral health field.
  • Current AZ Driver's License valid and in good standing
  • Clear 39-month Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
  • Certified Peer Support (PSS) in accordance with A.A.C. R9-10-101.33 and Sanctuary Recovery Centers Policies and Procedures.
  • Background Check: All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.
  • Drug Screening: Candidates must pass a drug screening test as a condition of employment.
  • APS Registry: Candidates must pass an APS (Adult Protective Services) registry check before an offer of employment can be extended.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 or more consecutive years in recovery from Alcohol or Drugs and/or GMH is preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with individuals in the community who are experiencing mental health challenges, offering peer support and encouragement in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Establish trusting and supportive relationships with clients, serving as a role model and mentor in their recovery journey.
  • Provide one-on-one peer support sessions, facilitating discussions, and sharing personal experiences to offer hope, empathy, and validation.
  • Assist clients in identifying their strengths, goals, and values, and support them in developing personalized recovery plans.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Community Outreach Team to connect clients with appropriate resources, including mental health services, housing assistance, employment opportunities, and social support networks.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients to ensure their voices are heard and their needs are addressed within the community and service systems.
  • Lead or co-facilitate community events focused on mental health education, self-care, and peer support.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in all interactions with clients and stakeholders.
  • Document client interactions, progress, and outcomes accurately and timely in accordance with organizational protocols.
  • Participate in regular supervision, team meetings, and training sessions to enhance skills and professional development.
