About The Position

We are seeking a courageous, compassionate, and authentic Peer Support Specialist to join our Mobile Crisis Team and help individuals navigate some of the most challenging moments of their lives. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will be more than an employee—you will be a bridge to hope, connection, and recovery. Your lived experience and personal understanding of the recovery journey will provide a unique and invaluable perspective that helps individuals feel heard, respected, and supported when they need it most. Working alongside clinicians, crisis responders, and community partners, you will respond to individuals experiencing behavioral health crises and provide encouragement, advocacy, and practical support. Through genuine connection and shared experience, you will help individuals recognize their strengths, explore options for recovery, and see that a crisis does not define their future. As part of our Mobile Crisis Team, you’ll work evening and overnight hours in a rotating schedule that reflects the fast-paced, responsive nature of crisis care—providing critical support when it’s needed most, with only two weekend days per month required. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Lived experience with a willingness to share one’s own recovery journey and successful management of mental health challenges required.
  • Peer Support Certification endorsed by the State of New Hampshire, or willingness to pursue certification, required.
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required (or access to a reasonable transportation alternative).
  • Travel throughout Riverbend’s catchment area to various towns, community locations, client homes, state agencies, or other locations necessitated by job duties is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant work experience and/or college-level education in human services preferred.
  • Training in crisis intervention as a Peer Support Specialist preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Be a Voice of Hope: Use your own lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery to support individuals and families in active psychiatric crises.
  • Collaborate on the Front Lines: Work as a key member of a multidisciplinary team, partnering with healthcare providers and community leaders to stabilize high-pressure situations.
  • Create Better Outcomes: Help neighbors avoid unnecessary hospitalizations or incarcerations by connecting them to the immediate, community-based care they need.
  • Advocate & Empower: Turn a moment of crisis into a turning point for long-term healing and stability.
