About The Position

Coastal Horizons Center, Inc. is seeking a Peer Support Specialist for New Hanover County, based in Wilmington, North Carolina, in the Outpatient Treatment Program. The specialist promotes consumer engagement in therapy with clinicians, wellness services, recovery support, and primary care. The role includes conducting rapid screening for communicable disease, completing outcomes and evaluation tracking and reporting, documenting services, and assisting clients through support such as sharing personal recovery stories and helping them acquire resources. The Peer Support Specialist works directly with Opioid Treatment Programming staff and Coastal Horizons treatment providers to support continuity of care and takes a team-based approach to providing services with treatment providers and support services.

Requirements

Diploma or equivalent, or higher.
Knowledge of wellness and recovery-based concepts.
Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use disorders.
At least 18 months of recovery.
Active North Carolina Peer Support Certificate.

Responsibilities

Promote consumer engagement in therapy with clinicians, wellness services, recovery support, and primary care.
Conduct rapid screening for communicable disease.
Complete tracking and reporting requirements for outcomes and evaluation, and document services provided.
Assist clients in a variety of ways, including sharing personal recovery stories and helping with resource acquisition.
Work with Opioid Treatment Programming staff and Coastal Horizons treatment providers to ensure continuity of care.
Engage in a team approach to providing services with treatment providers and support services.
