About The Position

Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital (LBHH) is a newly opened (July, 2018) 126-bed, inpatient psychiatric hospital and start-up joint venture between Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine and Universal Health Services. In addition to a general adult unit and dedicated adolescent unit, the new facility will also offer services for treating those with co-occurring disorders on the psychiatric-medical unit, an intensive adult unit to care for those with severe conditions, as well as a women’s trauma unit. Peer Support Specialists at Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital deliver quality care to patients with varying psychiatric, behavioral and mental health diagnoses, ensuring their safety and continued care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Current Peer Specialist Certification.
  • Previous employment experience as a Peer Specialist.
  • Prior consistent work or volunteer history over the past 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Works with patients in completing an assessment to guide recovery planning
  • Assist patients in articulating personal goals for recovery and to pursue a Wellness Recovery Action Plan
  • Assist patients in developing self-management skills including problem solving and self-advocacy skills
  • Participate in daily goal planning and discharge planning with the treatment team
  • Participate in group sessions
  • Offer non-judgmental forum for listening and providing empathy for the patients experiences with mental illness and the mental health system
