About The Position

Merakey is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to join its team in Shreveport, Louisiana. The role uses individual and group encounters to help consumers regain control over their lives and recovery processes. The specialist models recovery competency and ongoing coping skills, advocates for consumers, and provides information and peer support in community, inpatient, or emergency settings. The specialist also provides expertise and consultation to team members to promote recovery-oriented service practices and help them understand consumers’ perspectives and experiences. Services must follow applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and Merakey’s mission and values. The role requires travel within the region and participation in an on-call rotation.

Requirements

• Active driver's license.
• Willingness to work in a community setting with members diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness.
• Lived experience with a behavioral health diagnosis, including mental health challenges, addiction challenges, or co-occurring disorders.
• At least 12 months of continuous, demonstrated recovery.
• Ability to complete a two-week, 76-hour training.

• Serve as a consumer advocate.
• Provide information and peer support in community, inpatient, or emergency settings.
• Provide expertise and consultation to team members to promote recovery-oriented practices and understanding of consumers’ perspectives and experiences.
• Provide services in accordance with policies, procedures, regulations, and the company’s mission and values.
• Travel within the region and participate in an on-call rotation.
