About The Position

The Salvation Army Midland Midtown Treatment Center located in St. Louis, Missouri, is looking for a Peer Support Specialist. The individual in this position will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, with starting pay of $17.00 per hour.

Requirements

  • High school/equivalent diploma and one year work experience or two year’s work experience without diploma.
  • Must have been Missouri Certified Peer Specialist or eligible to receive credential within 60 days.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain: Hepatitis A vaccine documentation required by the City of St. Louis Health Department; Annual TB test required per Salvation Army Midtown Service & Treatment Center Policy; Current CPR certificate required.
  • Must provide primary source verification of appropriate required credentials within 90 days of employment.
  • Serv-Safe Certification must be acquired within 60 days of employment.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a Class E license.
  • Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimal supervision.
  • Must think independently and demonstrate sound judgment.
  • Must be supportive of The Salvation Army’s mission and policies.
  • The position requires a high level of confidentiality.
  • Good communication skills as well as the ability to work with diverse and challenging personalities are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach to hospitals clinics and other locations in an effort to connect clients with SUD to treatment.
  • Conduct initial screening to determine client appropriateness for services at Midtown. If client is not appropriate provide a warm transfer and or referral to appropriate services.
  • Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.
  • Assist recovering persons to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths and weaknesses regarding recovery.
  • Assist/coach recovering persons develop their own plan for advancing their recovery; for “getting the life they want.”
  • Promote self-advocacy by assisting recovering persons to have their voices fully heard; their needs, goals and objectives established as the focal point of rehabilitation and clinical services.
