Requirements

  • A personal history of mental health recovery and a willingness to self-identify to support others.
  • Strong belief in client self-determination and recovery.
  • Proven ability to build trust while maintaining professional ethical guidelines.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for community visits.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Lived experience with a willingness to share one’s own recovery journey and successful management of mental health challenges required.
  • Peer Support Certification endorsed by the State of New Hampshire, or willingness to pursue certification, required.
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required (or access to a reasonable transportation alternative).
  • Travel throughout Riverbend’s catchment area to various towns, community locations, client homes, state agencies, or other locations necessitated by job duties is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant work experience and/or college-level education in human services preferred.
  • Training in crisis intervention as a Peer Support Specialist preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize your own lived experience with mental health challenges to inspire, engage, and support clients in their recovery journey.
  • Provide community-based, face-to-face support in clients’ homes, neighborhoods, and natural environments.
  • Ensure client voices, preferences, and goals are respected, understood, and central to the team’s treatment planning.
  • Provide peer counseling, psychoeducation, and mentoring on wellness, self-care, and illness self-management.
  • Assist individuals in avoiding unnecessary hospitalizations or incarcerations by providing in-the-moment support.
  • Work alongside clinicians to help clients navigate community resources, housing, and social services.
  • Complete necessary, timely paperwork to support team integration and regulatory requirements.
