About The Position

Certified Peer Support Specialist- OTP Clinic The Peer Support Specialist provides vital support and advocacy for individuals involved in the criminal justice system, assisting with their transition from incarceration to community living. Utilizing lived experience with recovery and/or reentry, the Specialist offers emotional support, guidance, and resource connection to promote successful reintegration, reduce recidivism, and improve overall well-being. The Peer Support Specialist will coordinate with health service providers, the Clinical Case Manager, the discharge planner, and reentry staff to provide outreach, intake, and wrap-around services for individuals participating in the MAT program. The Peer Support Specialists should have experience with substance use and mental health. They must be trained in peer counseling, life skills, and the impact of reentry on individuals. The PSS must be qualified and trained to provide effective diversion and/or reentry services and maintain the confidentiality of program participants’ medical and justice involvement history. This position is supported by grant funding for an initial 18 month period, with the opportunity to extend for another 12 months. Following the grant period, there may be opportunities for the role to continue as part of ongoing operations, contingent on program sustainability and organizational needs. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Certified as a Peer Support Specialist
  • Unencumbered, valid driver license and proof of insurance
  • Personal lived experience with recovery from substance use disorder, mental health challenges, and/or criminal justice involvement required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one peer support to individuals involved in reentry and jail diversion programs, sharing personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and motivation. Foster a safe, non-judgmental and culturally sensitive environment for clients.
  • Assist clients in navigating healthcare, mental health, substance use treatment, housing, employment, education, and social services.
  • Facilitate peer support groups and educational workshops focused on recovery, coping skills, and community resources.
  • Advocate for clients’ needs and rights within healthcare, social service, and justice systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including case managers, social workers, probation/parole officers, and healthcare providers to coordinate care.
  • Help develop individualized reentry plans supporting clients’ goals and recovery journeys.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of support activities and client progress according to program requirements. Complete intakes and report compliance.
