About The Position

Pyramid Healthcare is seeking a compassionate and motivated Peer Support Specialist to join our Dual Diagnosis Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) in Asheville, NC. Our ACTT program provides intensive, community-based behavioral health services to individuals living with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. As a Peer Support Specialist, you’ll use your own recovery experience to build trust, provide hope, and help individuals work toward greater stability, independence, and recovery. Lived experience within the criminal justice system is strongly preferred. Experience navigating incarceration, probation, parole, court involvement, or other aspects of the justice system can provide valuable perspective when supporting individuals facing similar challenges.

Requirements

  • Current North Carolina Peer Support Specialist Certification
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries while using lived experience effectively
  • Passion for supporting individuals with mental health and substance use challenges

Nice To Haves

  • Lived experience within the criminal justice system
  • Experience supporting individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders
  • Experience working in a community-based behavioral health setting

Responsibilities

  • Use lived experience to provide hope, mentorship, encouragement, and peer support
  • Build trusting relationships with clients and support their individual recovery goals
  • Collaborate as an active member of the multidisciplinary ACTT team
  • Support individualized mental health and substance use treatment goals
  • Maintain accurate and timely client documentation, including medical records, ROIs, CCPs, and discharge/aftercare planning
  • Participate in daily team meetings and rotate responsibility for meeting documentation
  • Provide or coordinate transportation to help clients access appointments and community resources
  • Develop and facilitate weekly social, educational, and recovery-focused groups
  • Conduct outreach and coordinate care with referral sources and community partners
  • Assist with crisis planning and response, including emergency assessments and hospital diversion when needed
  • Promote recovery, community integration, independence, and self-advocacy
  • Perform other duties as assigned
