About The Position

BJC Behavioral Health is a community health center serving adults with serious mental illness and children with serious emotional disturbance across several Missouri counties. The Mobile Crisis Response program supports people of all ages who have contacted 988 and need in-person assessment and support. Staff travel to the person in crisis wherever they are in the community, using a company vehicle. The touchdown location is BJC Commons, while client work may take place in homes, parks, stores, bus stations, streets, or other community locations. Peer Support Specialists draw on lived experience of recovery to share recovery tools and model successful recovery behaviors. They help people with mental illness and substance use disorders build support networks, develop a sense of community, and pursue goals in their individualized treatment or recovery plans. When dispatched as a primary member of a Mobile Crisis Response team, the specialist takes point on assessments, documents those assessments, and participates in clinical decisions. The team operates 24/7/365 and includes mental health professionals at different levels of training. The position is scheduled for 4 PM–12 PM with alternating weekends. The role calls for comfort managing stress and change, a solutions-oriented approach focused on client strengths and resources, and the ability to collaborate with staff and leaders. A sign-on bonus of up to $2,000 is offered.
