About The Position

Frontier Behavioral Health's Community Diversion Unit (CDU) aims to reduce involvement with the criminal court system for individuals with behavioral health issues. The CDU team works with referrals from law enforcement co-deployed teams and FBH's Mobile Crisis Assessment and Triage (MCAT). The primary goal is to prevent criminal justice system involvement by offering short-term community stabilization and/or appropriate behavioral health services. The team also connects individuals to community resources for behavioral healthcare in the least restrictive environment possible. Referrals come from various sources including co-responder teams and other identified third-party referral sources. The CDU serves individuals who are confirmed or potential Trueblood class members.

Requirements

  • Self-identify as having one or more years in recovery from a mental health condition, substance use disorder, or both.
  • Possess a Certified Peer Support Specialist or Certified Peer Support Specialist Trainee Credential from the WA State Department of Health, OR apply for the Certified Peer Support Specialist TRAINEE credential within 90 days of the start date if not already possessing one.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Unrestricted and valid driver’s license.
  • Active car insurance.
  • Willingness to use personal vehicle for work.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years' experience working in a community behavioral health setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative and collaborative manner as a team member.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultures.
  • Familiarity with the structure of inpatient behavioral health care facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support services focused on recovery and rehabilitation, self-advocacy, development of natural supports, maintenance of community living skills, and self-sufficiency.
  • Assist other professionals in developing treatment interventions and stabilization plans for individuals in acute crisis.
  • Offer supportive services based on shared experiences as a peer, encouraging hope, control over lives, and active participation in resolving crises.
  • Identify services and activities that promote recovery by instilling hope and experiences leading to meaning and purpose, and decreasing stigma.
  • Promote personal responsibility for recovery as defined by the individual client or mental health service.
  • Serve as an advocate and provide information and peer support in various settings.
  • Participate in a multi-disciplinary team approach to provide support and stabilization services in a manner appropriate to the individual client, their developmental level, and supportive of their culture.
  • Ensure the individual and their family are heard and their needs are addressed and met.
  • Engage with individuals prior to discharge from emergency departments, medical admissions, or incarceration, and participate in discharge planning and assist families with transitions.
  • Maintain close communication with team members and other clinical and administrative staff to ensure high-quality services.
  • Serve as a peer advocate to empower individuals in gaining the knowledge and skills necessary for crisis stabilization.
  • Assist individuals in crisis by finding appropriate resources for stabilization in the least restrictive environment.
  • Develop and maintain linkages with community resources beneficial to the identified population.
  • Maintain client records and other required documentation in a timely and confidential manner.
  • Travel to see clients in the community and between work sites.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
